So here I am. In DC (or really Bethesda, MD) with a grand cast of characters from Seattle, Cincinnati, Philly, DC, etc... Good, good times. Off This has been a great conference, truly generous in the wonderful sense of the word. And frankly, more orthodox than I've felt in a while.

I'm exhausted, tho. Awesome new friendships with amazing people like Rose Madrid-Swetman, Dave Richards, Ryan Bead, and April Stace-Vega. Bob and I have been running the tech booth deal with video, music, and powerpoint. Its gone very well and we haven't broken anything yet!

Here's an un-editted podcast I recorded tonight during dinner with Rose Madrid-Swetman, April Stace-Vega, and Rachelle Mee-Chapman.

The music at the beginning and end (not the chant stuff, that's a Monk named Creecher) is from Harp 46 of which April is a third. April and her husband Nuc are on staff at The Church in Bethesda that is hosting (very well, I might add) the conference this weekend.

Oh, we're recording all the main sessions and some of the workshops.... I'm not sure what we'll do with them... naturally I want to give them away via podcast or otherwise.... we'll see.

And we had "afterglo" here tonight. Nothing like a nice Irish Pub to cap off the evening with good conversation, Irish Coffee, and Guinness Ice Cream (which they were out of, but I tried to order... so sad).

Ponenburg (german theologian/sociologist):

four groups:
1. Liturgical
2. Social Justice
3. Charismatics/Pentecostals (experiential in their authority)
4. Conservatives (theo-cratics) (includes evangelicals)

as hierarchil relationship breaks down (which will because the family hierarchy has broken down)

becoming blurred in the center.... called the "beloved community" (martin luther king)

as the energy comes to the center and emerges >>>> the new christianity >>>>> splintering off of 10-13% that try regress.

center = wonderful, marvelous... but problems... where are education, leadership, benefits

"generous orthodoxy is the most significant book of the new millenium. 200 years from now that book will stand as what the center is"

2 christianities:
1. civic christian (martin marty)
2. observant chrisitan (costs you something)

nothing more frightening than a socially acceptable religion

americans roughly 83% claim to be christian
questioned - virgin birth

questions:

fly fishing analogy - what is "freedom" for the emerging church? ie what forms/possible futures for the new rose?
how does emerging (digital) technology play into this (new rose) on a north american and global context?

I am in Nashville. Today is Thursday, May 19th. Presently I'm sitting in the Church Learning Community with Al Roxburgh and Doug Pagitt... and about 200 other folk. And yes, I am recording it. I'll post it later.

I didn't have wifi connection yesterday so I couldn't upload the audio and video I captured. And actually I don't even have it yet (I'm writing this in Notepad and will copy/paste later) - its only on the 3rd floor and I'm on the 2nd. ugh. Nashville is very nice and hospitable... but not very techie, atleast in the wifi arena.

Oh, Roxburgh just invoked the spirit of Newbigin... "the church is the instrument, foretaste, and witness of the Gospel".

I'm really thinking of switching to Word Press or something. I would really like a system that I could do my personal blog, conversatio podcast, and any other podcast (lectionary readings, daily office) ALL from. With Word Press would I be able to set up independent urls? Like would I be able to use the same server to host www.aaronklinefelter.com, www.conversatio.com, and www.audiolectionary.com (for instance)?

Monday night, April 4th, we're planning on recording our next conversation. This time the conversation will be on Technology and the (emerging) Church. I'm hoping to put together something of a rough outline for us to follow. This will hopefully keep us on track, but still allow for the seredipitious moments of conversational bliss.
